Born in Whitchurch, Shropshire in 1894 (baptised 1 August 1894), the son of Mrs Mary Ann Evanson (previously Clive) and step-son of Henry Evanson of White House, Wellington Lane, Worthenbury, Wrexham, Wales.
The 1911 Census shows Walter as a farm labourer living at Green Shop, Llangedwyn, Oswestry, Shropshire.
