Born:  Quarter 3 1879 in Whitchurch, Shropshire.

Family:  He was the fifth of seven children born to George Bristow, a tailor, and his wife Eleanor (nee Davies). His siblings were Thomas, George, Ernest, Clement, Florence and Mabel.

Residence:  At the time of the 1881 and 1891 Censuses Sidney`s address was given as Green End, Whitchurch, Shropshire. By 1901 he appeared to have been living in Ormskirk, Lancashire. Ten years later he was back in Whitchurch at 15 Edgeley Road.  

Employment:  On the 1901 Census Sidney`s occupation was said to have been a baker and confectioner but by 1911 he was a fishmonger. This was still his occupation in 1917, as shown in the UK City and County Directories, where his business address was given as 50 Green End, Whitchurch.
