Born: 20 July 1877 in Whitchurch, Shropshire and baptised 7 October 1877 at St. Alkmund`s Parish Church, Whitchurch.

Family: He was the third of seven children born to John George Green, a butcher, and his wife Mary. He married Hilda Bedford 7 February 1905 at the United Reformed Church in Whitchurch. No children can be found for the marriage. His wife died in 1937.

Residence: At the time of his baptism in 1877 his family were living in Green End, Whitchurch but ten years later their address was Watergate Street. They were still living here in 1901. By 1911 John was married and was living at 16 Barkhill. This was the address given for him on the 1919 Absent Voters List. In 1939 and now widowed he had moved to 28 Worthington Street.

Employment: On both the 1901 and 1911 Censuses John`s occupation was a butcher but by 1939 he had become a pig buyer working for a Birmingham meat company.

Died: Quarter 2 1942, Whitchurch, Shropshire, aged 64; buried in Whitchurch cemetery 7 May 1942.
