Personal Details

Born: 15 July 1896 in Tilstock, Whitchurch, Shropshire.

Family: He was the youngest of three children born to James Stubbs, a railway platelayer, and his wife Sarah Ann. He married Bessie Hoyland Mawdsley on 11 July 1917 in Chew Magna, Somerset and together had two children – John and George.

Residence: In 1901 he lived with his parents and siblings in Tilstock. By 1911 he was boarding at Millbank, Tattenhall, Cheshire and when he enlisted in 1916 lived in Newton, Tattenhall, Cheshire. In 1939 he was living  at the Sportsman’s Arms in Tarvin, Cheshire. At the time of his death he was living at Rose Bank, Tattenhall.

Employment: In 1916 when he enlisted he declared his occupation as jelly cutter; in 1939 he was a timekeeper.

Died: 16 February 1963 at the City Hospital, Chester, aged 66.
