Born: Last quarter of 1882 in Whitchurch. Surname also spelt Croxson and Croxton in records.

Family: Third of four surviving children born to Samuel and Betsy Croxson. Up until 1919 Frederick was single.

Residence: According to baptism records dated 1881 and 1887, for two of Frederick’s siblings, he lived in Yardington, Whitchurch, Shropshire. In 1916 Frederick was living at 27 Hathaway Road, Croydon, Surrey. His next-of-kin at this time was his married sister Ada who was listed as living in Yardington Street, Whitchurch. By December 1919 his address had changed to Corporation Street in Chorley, Lancashire.

Employment: At the time of enlistment Frederick was employed as a tinsmith and sheet metal worker.
