Charles Arthur Hewitt, born in Aston, Birmingham in 1897, the third son of Thomas and Emily Hewitt. By the time he enlisted his mother was a widow living at 14 Egerton Road, Whitchurch.
Charles died of Pneumonia at Poixterron.
His two elder brothers, Thomas and George, who both served with the 5th King's Shropshire Light Infantry were also killed in the Great War. They were both killed on 25th September 1915.
Charles was not killed in action but is more likely to have died from his illness. (The 'Soldiers Died in the Great War' website says he 'died' rather than 'killed in action' or 'died of wounds')
