Born in Norbury, Cheshire in September or October 1887, the second son of Thomas Maddocks and the late Annie Maddocks of Mount Farm Cottage, Tarporley Road, Whitchurch, Shropshire.
William was a labourer before enlisting in 1907.
William’s three brothers Joseph, John and Thomas also lost their lives in the Great War.
