Personal Details

Born: 29 November 1881.

Family: The second son of William and Ann Stockton of Smallbrook Buildings, West End, Whitchurch, Shropshire. He married Ada Jones on the 14 February 1906 and was father to Louisa, Nellie, Beatrice, William and Elsie.

Residence: After the war he continued to live at 1 Smallbrook Road, Whitchurch, Shropshire.

Civilian Occupation: He was a general labourer.

Died: In 1940 in Chester Royal Infirmary, aged 58 and buried 6 July the same year in Whitchurch cemetery.

Service Number: 92391 (and also 201948)

Date of Enlistment: 12 December 1914

Date of Discharge: 11 February 1920

Reason for Discharge: Demobilisation

Further information: He joined the 14th Hussars on the 23 May 1900 and served in South Africa where he was wounded. After the end of the WW1 he served in India where he was taken ill on several occasions.

John was awarded the British War Medal.
