John William Haycocks, born in Birkenhead, Cheshire in 1893. He was the second son of Thomas Henry and Mary Elizabeth Haycocks of 8 Smallbrook Buildings, Whitchurch.
John was an apprentice baker before he enlisted in the Army on the 14th October 1914.
