Born in Ash, Shropshire in 1885, the eldest son of George and Lucy harding of Sparrow Castle, Ash Parva, Whitchurch, Shropshire.
The 1911 Census shows him employed as a farm waggoner.
Note that Arthur and Charles Ivor Rivers Bulkeley (also commemorated on the Ash Magna memorial) both died on the same day and are both commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial. This suggests they died in the same action, although they served in different regiments.
