William Grice

Personal Details

Born: 31 December 1880 in Whitchurch, Shropshire and baptised 2 September 1881 at St. Alkmund`s Parish Church, Whitchurch.

Family: He was the second of four children born to John Grice, a french polisher, and his wife Elizabeth. He married Marion Phillips in Quarter 1 1907 in Whitchurch, Shropshire. The couple had three children, Doris, John and Phyllis.

Residence: On the 1881 Census William`s family were living in The White Bear Yard, High Street, Whitchurch but some ten years later they can be found at Liverpool Road. By 1901 they had moved again, this time to 13 Highgate. In 1911 and now married, William was living at 13A Barkhill, Whitchurch. The address given for him on the 1919 Absent Voters List was 12 Highgate. Twenty years later he and his family were living at 25 Liverpool Road, where he died.

Employment: His occupation was an ironmonger`s porter in 1901 but ten years later he was a labourer in a foundry. By 1939 he was described as a paint storekeeper.

Died: Quarter 4 1954 in Whitchurch, Shropshire, aged 73; buried in Whitchurch cemetery 12 October 1954.
