Percival Branford

Personal Details

Born:   25 September 1881 in Ironbridge, Shropshire and baptised on 9 November 1881 at the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, Madeley Wood, Shropshire.

Family: He was the seventh of nine children born to John Branford, a painter and glazier, and his wife Ann Abigail (nee Hinsley). He married Ida Wycherley Quarter 3 1911 in Whitchurch Shropshire. They had two sons Alick W.  born 1912 and Colin born 1914. Tragically both sons died within a year of one another, Alick in 1937 and Colin in 1938 as the result of a motorcycle accident.

Residence: Percival was living with his family in Madeley Road, Ironbridge, Shropshire in 1891. By 1901 he was in Whitchurch as a lodger at 27 Barkhill. Ten years later he had moved to 56 Hartington Street, Barrow in Furness, Lancashire. The Spring 1919 Absent Voters List records an address of 1 Richmond Terrace, Whitchurch for him. In 1939 he and his wife were living at 147 Springwell Lane, Doncaster, Yorkshire. This was the address given for him in the National Probate Calendar for 1947.

Employment:  On the 1901 Census Percival was described as a clothier`s assistant, however by 1911 he was a clothing shop manager.  By 1939 he was a men`s clothing retailer.

Died:  8 December 1946 in Doncaster, Yorkshire, aged 65.
